2011 Year End Statement of Union Trust Bank (Sierra Leone) Founder & CEO, Mr J. Sanpha Koroma
A very good evening and a warm welcome to you all our distinguished guests and valued stakeholders. On behalf of our shareholders, directors, management and staff and on my personal behalf, I wish to express our collective thanks and appreciation for taking time to be with us. In a special way I want to thank Dr. Samura Kamara for his presence and continued leadership of the macro economy. Most of us gathered here have been attending similar gatherings most of last month. As you will recall, before now, these occasions provided an opportunity when bankers worldwide, the once celebrated and admired “masters of the universe” told the world how much they have grown their balance sheets, their profitability and therefore the scale of their bonuses for years under review. Even we in less grandiose circumstances followed that tradition, for what it was worth.

FOR SLPP FLAG BEARERSHIP: CHOOSE MOMODU KOROMA
The moment is come, and by this time next Monday the election of the flagbearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) would have become a foregone conclusion. The name of the personality would have been known and heralded around the world. And then celebration. Meanwhile, the stakes to choose that one flagbearer out of the 19 enterprising, dedicated and patriotic aspirants remains high and mind-bugling. The question of who shall be that one man or woman now absorbs the hearts and minds of Sierra Leoneans far and near; it interests our development partners as well because change in the governance of this country by all indications is imperative. And it calls for the right person to lead the cause.

Usman Boie-Kamara was SLPP from the Day he was Born
Not too long from now the curtains at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown will be drawn open to host the long awaited political drama ever in Sierra Leone. That date will witness the opposition Sierra Leone Peoples P arty (SPP) holding their most important convention in the history of the party. This convention is considered special because it is the first time in the history of the party to have 19 aspirants contending for the party’s flagbearership race. Come that day, a simple majority system will decide who will land the big challenge of leading the party to victory in 2012. In the process of winning hearts and minds we have witnessed a huge propaganda battle among most of the contenders. It is true that some people will stop at nothing to emerge victorious in a competition. Even to the extent of fabricating lies and making up unfounded allegations about their colleagues. But for us bystanders, these controversies are what adds spice to the whole process and keeps us interested in the activities of the great Palm Tree.

From A Ripple Into A Wave: ‘Alpha Wave’ Rocks Salone
Campaigning for the flagbearership of the SLPP by Dr. Alpha Tejan Wurie got underway in August 2010 as a ripple right in the hub of media activities. While other aspirants had never been at ease to face media practitioners, Dr. Alpha Wurie was bold enough to launch his campaign at the headquarters of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists at Campbell Street, Freetown, where he confidently and eloquently responded to the barrage of questions posed to him by the galaxy of pressmen in attendance. Not surprisingly therefore, the print and electronic media were dominated by news of the arrival of a formidable candidate, though somehow late.
