Anti Corruption Commission Files 17 Count Charge Against Hon. Afsatu Kabba
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone has, in an unexpected move, this morning filed a seventeen count charge against Fisheries Minister Hon. Haja Afsatu Kabba alleging that she solicited cash from a Chinese company named CNFC through Lilian Lisk of Okeky Agencies as well as alleging that she abused her office by employing her son and her other associates as Marine Protection Officers. None of the counts involve corruption of Government money. They are all alleging abuse of office and soliciting from Lilian Lisk. Hon. Afsatu Kabba has just been taken to court and should appear in front of Justice Nicholas Browne-Marke. An interesting aspect of the indictment is that it states that Afsatu Kabba did not sign to receive the alleged amounts but that Lilian Lisk signed on her behalf from the Chinese. Meanwhile, it has now emerged that Mr. Bashiru Konneh, one of the ACC's lead investigators of Afsatu Kabba has close ties to the country's shady FISH MAFIA. We will bring you more details soon.

Minister Afsatu Kabba’s Husband & Sons Allowed to go Home
Mr. Nfaji Kabba (snr), husband of Sierra Leone’s Fisheries Minister and his sons who were invited to the Anti Corruption Commission under Section 53(1) of the Anti Corruption Act of 2008 in the early hours of this morning, have returned home. Unlike the female Minister, they inform Awareness Times that they were not served Section 63(1) Notices which calls for them to produce sureties and hand over their passports. Meanwhile, the hounding of Hon. Afsatu Kabba has brought back bitter memories of how the late Gloria Newman Smart was treated by the Anti Corruption Commission which led to her death in 2005. It has been learnt that the Anti Corruption investigators were banging on the gates of the Minister’s house very loudly shouting out, “Anti Corruption! Open Up the Gate!! Anti Corruption!! Open Up the Gates!!” During this time, the armed policemen were stationed all over the neighbourhood where the Minister resides.

Truckload of Armed Police Officers Pick Up Afsatu Kabba's Husband & Sons in Sierra Leone
...The convoy was very obvious and so Afsatu's husband, after a few miles at Spur Road, stopped his vehicle and the Police Truck and ACC Van also stopped. He got out and went to the Officials and pointed out that if he was not under arrest as they claimed, why were they publicly tailing him? They sheepishly responded, "nothing Sir" but refused to move off. It is important to note that as ACC swooped in as soon as the Minister took off for her meeting to take the visiting World Bank team on tour of Tombo and other Fishing areas. Naturally, the devastated woman had to cut the tour and head back to town.

Hon. Eddie Turay Gracefully Chats with Awareness Times
The Honourable Eddie Turay has this afternoon had a nice telephone chat with the Publisher of this newspaper where he gracefully acknowledged the fact that it was an editorial oversight that caused our NEWS BRIEFS section to report on a report in a different local tabloid that alleged he was ill in London and had been flown to India for treatment. "I was never upset even for a single moment with your newspaper especially as you published that it was a report you were quoting from. I was upset with the African Champion newspaper who first published it but not with Awareness Times," Hon. Eddie Turay firmly stated. Albeit, Awareness Times has offered our very sincere apologies to the Honourable gentleman for any embarrassment the news briefs publication might have caused to him.

SLPP MPs Walk out But APC/PMDC Forcibly Pass Minerals Bill in Non-procedural manner
An angry Hon. Emmanuel Tommy, acting Parliamentary Minority Leader has told the Awareness Times Newspaper that he was "sending a message" to Donors and Investors at the Trade & Investment and the Donor Conferences on Sierra Leone slated to hold this week in London by boycotting them although he had planned to attend. According to Tommy, who had just led a Walk-out of the Parliament co-ordinated by Jacob Jusu Saffa, the SLPP Scribe, he wanted the Donors and Investors to know that the Ernest Bai Koroma led APC Government did not respect laid down laws of the land. The SLPP Chairman, John Benjamin also spoke to Awareness Times from his farm in Bunumbu, Eastern Province and confirmed that the entire SLPP Party is angry that normal legislative procedures were boycotted to forcibly pass the Minerals Bill at precisely 18:18GMT this evening. "This is why our MPs walked out; we cannot be a party to the lawlessness of the APC," John Benjamin asserted from his rice farm.

The Executive Chairman of the Southern Regional Branch of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP), Mr. Sidikie Janneh has passed away in Monrovia, Liberia this morning after he suddenly took ill during a visit to that country. His body is now being conveyed on board an ambulance towards the Mano River Union bridge where it would be welcomed at the Sierra Leone side by SLPP stalwarts who will proceed to convey the corpse to Bo Town where the late man hailed from. Mr. Janneh was a member of the SLPP who quit to form the PMDC party and became that latter party's Financial Secretary. He however went back to rejoin the SLPP and was recently elected as Southern Regional Chairman of the SLPP at the March 2009 SLPP Convention.

Citizens from Sierra Leone to Demonstrate at the United Nations on Wednesday June 10th 2009
"...ERSG Schulenburg knows that the UN operates on the basis of consultation and consensus and Sierra Leone would be best served if he falls back on the basic ABCs of UN operations,” concluded the erudite SLPP’s North America Director of Communications. Awareness Times tried to contact Mr. John Benjamin, the indisputable Leader and National Chairman of the SLPP who is currently out there in America but who has been completely sidelined by both the APC Foreign Office and the Schulenburg United Nations Peace-Consolidating Office which side-lining is in direct contravention to the Joint Communique that calls for bi-partisan consultations.

Sierra Leone's Charismatic Opposition Leader Questioned for Five Hours in America
Just as it was announced by certain news media, the charismatic National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People's Party (SLPP) was detained for some five hours by Immigration Officials of the United States Government before he was released with apologies and allowed to enter into the USA. Benjamin, who has visited America countless numbers of times in the last twenty years, told Awareness Times on the phone line from America that this was the very first time he was treated in this manner; thus giving credence to those who had asserted he was only being victimised because he was recently elected as the SLPP Chairman. Full details plus some insights by leading Sierra Leone Publisher Sylvia Blyden will be out in tomorrow's edition of Awareness Times Newspaper.

Almost one hundred journalists backed by hundreds of citizens today stormed the Law Courts in support of Sierra Leone's leading female journalist who was charged to Court this afternoon on a one-count charge of publishing false material which the State Police accuse of being a Conspiracy aimed at getting the First Lady angry with the President and thus exposing the President to security threat by disrupting his marital home. Blyden was granted bail and walked out of court to loud cheers. The matter comes up again tomorrow when the Director of Public Prosecution, O.V. Robbin Mason will do what he calls a 'token start'.
