Professor Wangari Maathai, Africa’s First Female Nobel Laureate Passes On
Africa's first woman to win Nobel peace prize, Wangari Maathai, died on Sunday 25th September 2011 having lost her battle with cancer. She was 71. Maathai was a formidable woman who inspired many women to believe in themselves; not only in her native Kenya but all around the world. News of her death was greeted with mourning all around the world as condolences poured in from great persons like America's Barack Obama to Liberia's Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf down to so many ordinary Africans like students writing on Facebook.

Tayyib Bah Passes on
Journalist and Politician Ibrahim El-Tayyib Bah passed away on Saturday 18th June 2011 at the Choithram Hospital in Freetown. He was 50 years old. Tayyib, who was President of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists from 2000 – 2004, reportedly died of kidney failure. He was buried yesterday Sunday 19 June in Freetown.

Mr. Aderinokun co-founded Guaranty Trust Bank Plc in 1990 and served as Deputy Managing Director for 12 years between 1990 and 2002, after which he became the Managing Director, a position he held until his passing.

Olu Gordon of Sierra Leone's Peep! Newspaper is dead
Mr. Richie Olu Awoonor-Gordon, Editor of Peep! Newspaper has died. Gordon recently suffered a stroke in the middle of a sustained media bout he had with two determined journalists of SENATOR NEWSPAPER following which, Gordon had to be flown out in a wheelchair to London where he reportedly passed away today, April 4th 2011. OBITUARY: Joseph Christian Adewole John
John Adewole was a Sierra Leonean actor, musician and performer known to his close friends and family as ‘Wole’. His most recent dramatic incarnation was as the African genie on the Sky Aladdin Broadband adverts. He was born Joseph Christian Adewole Adewole John in 1948 in pre-independence Sierra Leone where he was educated at the prestigious Sierra Leone Grammar School and came to Britain in the late 1960s where he studied Theatre Arts at Dartington College.
