Chairman of the United Nations Peace Building Commission in Sierra Leone, Ambassador John Ncenee, has commended President Ernest Bai Koroma for his "commitment towards the development of Sierra Leone".
He made this commendation yesterday Tuesday 9th March 2010 at State House in Freetown, during a meeting with the Level 5 Ambassadors of the United Nations Peace Building Commission, who arrived in Sierra Leone recently to assess the peace building programme in the country.
Ambassador Ncenee said it is an open secret that the Government of Sierra Leone is assiduously working towards enhancing capacity building for future development, whilst referencing President Koroma’s "Agenda for Change" as an instance.
He furthered that the Agenda for Change is aimed at addressing the issues of governance and youth unemployment among others.
He also lauded President Koroma for appointing a member of the country’s opposition party to serve as Board Chairman of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation.
In his statement, President Koroma said the "Agenda for Change" will be implemented to develop Sierra Leone. He said the peace building commission continues to complement government’s effort in many fronts.
President Koroma highlighted some of the priority areas of his Agenda for Change, which includes energy, infrastructure, education, health and agriculture.
In the area of agriculture, President Koroma told the UN Team that his government has already allocated 9.9% of this year’s budget to agriculture, adding that the allocation was in line with the Maputo Declaration of Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) which has been locally conceptualized as the National Sustainable Agriculture Development Programme (NSADP).
President Koroma informed that his government and donor partners are working towards free medical treatment for infant, pregnant women and lactating mothers come 27th April this year. He also mentioned that said his government is on the verge of constructing more roads.
