At least forty million Leones (Le40M) has now been donated by sympathisers in Sierra Leone, including business organisations, individuals as well as other important personalities to the Haiti Disaster Fund.
This was disclosed to The Awareness Times by the Coordinator United for Humanity, Naasu Fofanah in Freetown. United for Humanity is an organisation set up by a group of Sierra Leoneans and Diasporeans wanting to demonstrate their sympathy and support for the plight of the Haitians following the recent earthquake that hit that country, costing the lives of hundreds of people, whilst others are still in dire need of humanitarian relief.
To collect more funds, the United for Humanity recently organised a benefit concert with renowned Sierra Leonean and international artistes at the Taia Resort, Lumley Beach Road in Freetown. The event mobilised more funds to support the work of two humanitarian organisations - Lamp for Haiti Foundation and One Dime at a Time - working to support the victims of the earthquake.
The show was sponsored by the following businesses through cash and in-kind donations. Cash: Leocem donated Le 10M, Ecobank Le10M, Comium Le5M, Zain Le5M and Family Kingdom Le5M. All cash donations have been paid into the account at Ecobank. Taia Resort, Africell, Sign Africa, Nabs Tech, St. Mary’s Supermarket, Nounou Photoshop, Country Lodge, Pelican Taxi and United Nations were among others who made donations in kind whilst other donations are still coming in.
The show featured artistes like Emmerson, Alonzo, Star Zero, Famous, Jimmy B., Wahid, SKP Family, Succulent, Vida, Lady Felicia, Ballanta Academy, Willie Jay, Leo, DJ Lulu, YOK 7, and SQB who donated their skills.
The Executive Representative of the Secretary General, Mr. Michael Schulenburg was the Guest of Honour whilst Madam Miata Fahnbulleh, Liberia’s international music star performed live.
It should be recalled that the President Koroma had earlier made a donation to Haiti, on behalf of the people of Sierra Leone, a few days after the Haiti disaster.
