Sierra Leone’s newest Appeals Court Judge is Vivian Solomon following her unanimous approval by parliamentarians on Thursday 4th March 2010.
Deputy Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Mohamed S. Kargbo, said Vivian Solomon was nominated by President Ernest Koroma.
According to him, the presidential nominee was interviewed by the parliamentary committee on appointment and public service.
Hon. Kargbo furthered that the interview focused on the nominee’s education background, past records and asset declaration among other issues.
Whilst dilating on Vivian Solomon’s past records, the Deputy Majority Leader said the former’s contribution in the legal profession and contribution in the academic field has been excellent and explicit.
Vivian Solomon is said to have assured the appointment committee that she will continue performing her duties without fear or favour.
Hon. Eric Jumu of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) described the appointment of Vivian Solomon as laudable, adding that the President must be commended for his gender balance consciousness in his appointments. He however, appealed to Judge Vivian Solomon to execute her duties in the interest of the state, whilst noting that appointments of women to such important positions will serve as inspirations for the country’s girl child.
