Throngs of relatives, friends, members of parliament and a host of other distinguished personalities on Friday 5th February 2010 converged at the China House in Freetown to celebrate a prestigious "China Africa Friendship Contribution Award" recently won by one of Sierra Leone’s proud sons, Dr. Alfred Bobson Sesay.
Dr. Alfred Bobson Sesay was among the few eminent African personalities who received the said awards. Other recipients of the same award include former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda, erstwhile Secretary General of the Organization for Africa Unity (OAU), now African Union (AU), Dr. Salim A. Salim, Chairman of the Congolese People’s Association for Friendship Countries, Vital Bilal and former Vice President of Egypt, Yusuf Waly.
The awards were presented on the 12th November 2010 in the Chinese capital of Beijing.
These Africans were awarded for their various roles towards socio-economic and political development of the African continent, as well as that of enhancing the Africa China relation.
Specifically, Sierra Leone’s Dr. Alfred Bobson Sesay won the award as a result of his selfless strides towards the development of school children through teaching, administrative, political, and sporting roles.
Dr. Bobson Sesay said the Chinese are people who believe in honesty, development diligence and respect for labour.
He maintained that the award was given to him as a surprise. "This award is not only for me Bobson Sesay but for Sierra Leone as a whole" he concluded.
