Accidents Claims Two Lives
Local tabloids say one Madam Fatu Bangura was hit by a jeep with registration number ADA 062 around the low cost axis. She died whilst she was being rushed to the hospital but the driver Ibrahim Koroma has been arrested. In another development, an apprentice, Wurie Sow, was crushed to death by his own driver along the Waterloo Highway.
FCC Boosts Schools
Reports have it that a total of one thousand tables and chairs have been donated by the Freetown City Council to schools in the western area. Reports say the schools that do not receive adequate supplies from the FCC are opportune to apply for more supply. According to reports, FCC has donated thousands of furniture, teaching and learning materials to schools in the city since last year.
Top Up Prices Go Up
After series of agitations and litigations of GMS operations by NATCOM following the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), the prices of recharge cards have finally shot up. Reports have it that the recharge cards prices have been increased by 6% since Friday 29th January 2010. According to report, this increase was unanimously agreed upon by NATCOM and GMS operators in the country.
Buffalos Disturb Farmers
Local tabloids have revealed that buffaloes residing in the Gola Forest in the Kenema District are presently chasing farmers in that part of the country. Reports say the farmers have no means to prevent the wild animals from their farms. According to reports, the buffalos are every now and then spreading their tentacles to farming communities in that area; an occurrence that have resulted to serious impediment to production of rice.
ACC Hails Acting Health Minister
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has reportedly hailed the Acting Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mohamed Daudis Koroma, for his proactiveness against corruption in the Health and Sanitation Ministry. According to reports, the Deputy Commissioner of ACC has reportedly thanked Mohamed Koroma for reducing the high level of corruption in that sector. The ACC has reportedly promised to start investigating the health sector.
Dispute in Kenema
Local tabloids have reported that there has been a long standing dispute between the Paramount Chief of Nongowa Chiefdom, Alhaji Amara Banya Vangahun and his Speaker, Chief Senesie Daniel Neka in the Kenema District. According to reports, the Speaker lodged the complaint of the PC to the Provincial Secretary, East, the Resident Minister, East, and other authorities. The complaint was on alleged financial malpractices. A committee has been set up to investigate the matter but the Chief is yet to be questioned by the committee.
Koindu Customs Post Re-opens
Reports have revealed that the Koindu Customs Post that used to generate income for the National Revenue Authority prior to the war has been reopened. According to reports, the post was funded by DFID, having noted that, the post was very strategic in the Kailahun District Border with Guinea and Liberia.
