MPs pledge to end GBV
Reports say, members of parliament recently made individual pledges of commitment to end the issue of Gender Based Violence in the country. According to reports, the signing of the individual pledges came as parliamentarians intend to fight against the issue of violence which infringes on human rights; especially the issue of gender based violence and the right of the child.
China/Salone Partners to Fight Malaria
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with the Chinese medical team is reportedly training health parishioners on Malaria prevention and other diseases in Freetown. According to reports, the training aims at equipping doctors and nurses in order to have the basic skills and knowledge on malaria prevention all over the country. Reports say, many health personnel were drawn all over Sierra Leone to participate in the training workshop.
Kenema -Pendembu Road kicks off in January
Local tabloids have alleged that the construction of the Kenema-Pendembu Road would commence by January 2010. According to reports, the contract bond has now been awarded to ISU and the company has mobilized all its machinery, equipment and manpower to commence the work. Reports also informed that, probably the construction will reach Kailahun Town.
3 Hospitals to Account for Le 500m
Local tabloids have alleged that, 3 government hospitals in the Western Area are to account for close to Le 500,000,000 worth of drugs, that were sold at the cost recovery, within the last 2 months. Reports say, the pharmacy Technicians who were responsible for the storage, distribution and sale are still unable to give proper account for the drugs sale. According to reports, the technicians have been asked to submit their reports to the deputy minister soon.
Kailahun Sets for Agricultural Show
Reports say, the people of Kailahun have all set to commemorate a three day event with a local Non-Governmental Organization named ‘Fambul Tok’ in a scheduled community show code named the "Agricultural show" at Bunumbu Town Peje West Chiefdom slated for December 17, 2009. According to reports, Fambul Tok is going organizing this show to allow the people of Kailahun to show case their harvest yield and cultural talents. There will be many agricultural products that would be displayed by various communities
Margai Nail APC, SLPP
The leader for, Peoples Movement for Democratic Change Lawyer (PMDC)Party,Charles Francis Margai had reportedly advised the people of Pujehun in the Southern Region, not to vote for either the All Peoples Congress(APC) or the Sierra Leone Peoples Party(SLPP), in the forthcoming 2012 elections. Mr. Margai was reportedly addressing the people of Sulima, Gendema, Zimmi and Fairo in the Pujehun District to put their weight behind him to enable him re-brand the country from what he referred to as quagmire. He was reported to have said that both the APC and the SLPP have failed the people of Sierra Leone.
Christiana Thorpe Warns Politicians
Local tabloids say, the Electoral Commissioner for Sierra Leone Madam Christiana Thorpe had given a stern warning to all politicians to keep off the forth coming Paramount Chieftaincy Elections. She reportedly gave this warning with regards recent reports that implicated the involvement of some Members of Parliament in certain Chieftaincy declaration ceremonies. She was reported to have informed that, this will not augur well with the peace and tranquility of the country.
